Cape May Getaway

Last summer, my husband Jon and I discovered Cape May, NJ and completely fell in love with the town. It’s quiet, relaxing and very romantic. Needless to say, we were both eager to take a break from our busy lives and get back there again this past August. Cape May is filled with hundreds of beautiful Victorian homes (most are B&B’s) in every color imaginable, fine dining, lots of quaint shops and of course the beach! You can walk or ride a bike just about anywhere in town.

We stayed at the same B&B as last year, The Albert Stevens Inn. Breakfast was delicious, but Jon and I looked forward to the afternoon cookies and sangria they would put out. The best coconut macaroons ever!

I find everything about the town so inspiring. The colors, the architecture, all of the plants and flowers! I walked around town, camera in hand, just trying to soak it all in.
I found this little wedding shop called Wedding by the Sea. They had a big mural painted on the side of the shop in pretty pastel colors. Each couple that had been married had their names and wedding date painted on a wooden shell. How cute! I wandered inside and the place was jam packed with everything wedding related. I didn’t get to stay too long, Jon was patiently waiting for me outside.

I’ve always thought that a marriage on the beach would be totally amazing. Just by luck, while we were leaving the beach one afternoon, a couple was getting married under the Cove pavilion, which is right on the beach. It was so sweet and intimate, just the two of them and a handful of family members—oh, and everyone on the beach. She was wearing this simple white tea length dress and he was in a light colored suit. After the ceremony, the put on their “Just Married” flip flops and walked along the beach for pictures. I wanted to snap a photo, but it felt too intrusive, I was just happy I got to watch.

After three great days of the beach, shopping and time together, we left feeling totally refreshed. But it’s only been a month and already I can’t wait to go back. If you’re ever looking for a little getaway I recommend Cape May. It’s like a page from a storybook.

Love, J
